Chris - I've had breakfast at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale and it's remarkably good and a complete bargain. Not destination dining, but a good option when you're stuck at the clinic all day for appointments.

Crazy post. I actually worked at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale for Marriott Management Services way, way, way back. While I wasn't in food service, I remember having a meal there my first partial day & thinking the cafeteria was surprisingly decent. That's been eons and I've never been to the hospital itself but you've gotten me interested. Not super, mind you. But a bit... : )

LOL, did they bring you the lactaid packet?? V. awesome if they did, I ALWAYS forget mine and I'm payin for it the next day. I've been wanting the soft pretzels and prov fondue and the pork belly cubano since I saw the menu weeks ago!! Great post!!

Weak sauce... Almost sounds PCDS lame... Bah!!! Just kidding. I admit I've been intrigued by what I've seen of the menu and pics folks have posted. Plus it's so close to the house. I think Chef Gwen gave it a decent review as well. While I'm not a fan of Fox in general, I'm not a hater. I do like the sliders at Modern Burger and Sauce can work if need be. We'll likely check it out soon. Must ask though, are you hanging your "street cred" on multiple visits or 1 meal? Hoping CD protects your liver from azhotdish's sous-vide. :)

If you had written that you were indeed a homicidal lunatic with a penchant for bestiality, you would have picked up 100's of non-foodie followers. I don't know if that's a good thing though. :) Nice review. I have been wanting to go to CD, and you have reset my expectations. Not that I was expecting anything in particular. And more importantly, I know not to order the fried chicken (which I love) because someone dares to drizzle honey on it (which crosses a serious food line for me).

The entire first paragraph is priceless!!! Ha!

I've been to Culinary Dropout a few times. Even enjoyed extra attention alongside a true VIP guest (who was disappointed both attempts.) I'm not a typical Fox hater. In fact, I really enjoyed Modern Steak.

CD just seems so lazy and scene specific. If there weren't a big name behind it, would anyone care?

They did have a good Blood & Sand cocktail. Monkey Bread thing reminded me of a fast-food-like dessert at Arby's. (our favorite spot)

But what the hell do I know. Maybe Culinary Dropout will be on next year's James Beard noms. Following in St. Francis' stumble... err... footsteps.

Nothing wrong with the word foodie. foodnik sounds waaay too much like beatnik which frankly is nothing to aspire to.

Culinary Dropout is a pretty cool joint with above average food. Prob fox's best attempt.

you are a brave foodnik wannabe. perhaps the bestowers of foodnik street cred ought not take themselves too seriously. open minds are the best kind, dontcha think? particularly when it comes to food, yes?

besides, we'll all end up at culinary dropout at one point or another whether by free will or under group coercion so your review is helpful to us all.
